My process can begin almost anywhere. It may start with a line or color based on a pattern found in nature. Or it may be a conglomeration of my responses to a current event, a memory of a trip out west or something seen in my own backyard.
Painting, sketching and photographing on site helps to capture my initial response. Exploring in my studio with materials such as watercolor and collage is when the ideas take form and the details emerge.
Music often sets the mood and gets me started to play with the materials in an intuitive way. The painting goes quickly, but the time to study the piece...that's the slowest part...how to finish? Often adding and subtracting from the surface will help complete the composition.
